Commercial Food preparation is the nation's leading industry with over $200 billion a year in sales and growing at a steady pace. With more and more people in our work force the average family finds themselves eating in restaurants more frequently than in years past. There are approximately 8 million people employed in the food service industry. Foods specialists purchase, plan, prepare, and serve food to the families of America.
This program is a 2-year program for juniors and seniors in high school of a one-year program for adults. The Culinary Arts program prepares students for entry into a food service career or for placement in an advanced college/technical program. Such as restaurant manager, cook, baker, pastry chef, caterer, waiter, or dining-room manager.
Salaries vary greatly depending on the ability level of the employee. They begin at minimum wage and may be as high as $10 per hour in Southwest Missouri. Units of Study include: production, dining room service, menu planning, restaurant management, cost portion control, safety, sanitatin, job seeking and job keeping skills, communications.
